Event Day Questions
What time do the gates open?
Gates are expected to open at 12 noon on Monday 28th July 2025.
What times does the show start?
We expect the main show to start at 2pm, with some warm up performances happening earlier.
What time does the event finish?
The event will finish between 3,30-4pm. Everyone must have vacated the gardens by 5pm.
Will there be food and drink to buy there?
Yes, there will be food and drinks caterers on the day. You can find out more closer to the time on our catering page.
Can I bring chairs, tables and parasols?
You may bring chairs and cool boxes to the event but not tables, parasols, windbreakers, disposable bbqs, golf/large umbrellas, large trollies and carts, or tents.
Any items not permitted on the lawn will need to be left by the entrance at your own risk, or returned to your car.
Small, fold up trollies are permitted to transport items to the lawned area but must be folded up between chairs or stored near the entrance.
Push chairs and prams must be 'parked' in the designated area and not taken onto the viewing lawn.
Can I bring my dog?
No dogs are allowed at the event except assistance dogs.
Can I bring a push chair or pram?
As this event is aimed at primary school and lower secondary aged children, rather than preschoolers, toddlers and babies, we have to ensure enough space for those ticket holders. Therefore, if you are bringing a younger sibling you will need to park the push chair or pram in our 'pram park' near the entrance for the duration of the event. No prams or push chairs are permitted onto the main lawn area and babies/toddlers must be seated on their parent's lap.
Ticket Questions
Can I buy extra adult tickets?
As this event is aimed at children, we have set up tickets in a way to limit the ratio of adults to children. This means you can only order a maximum of two adults to one child (via the solo adult plus two child family ticket) and add additional children to the family ticket.
It is possible to add extra children to the family tickets, but not the other way around.
If you have a situation where you feel it would be appropriate to increase the number of adults in your party you can get in touch via the contact page and we can use our discretion over these decisions.
How do I buy disabled tickets?
As all children must be accompanied by an adult anyway, there is no disabled plus carer ticket. We do have an allocation of tickets via local children's disability charities, so please reach out to your usual support organisations to see if you can access a free ticket.
If a severely disabled child needs 1:1 care, which means that adult cannot care for other children they want to bring, you can get in touch via the contact page for us to help. Please give as much information as possible so we can work out the best way for us to help ensure you can attend and enjoy the event.
For disabled adults who wish to attend with their own children and need help to access the event and care for their children, please get in touch so we can work out the best way to ensure you are supported on the day.
Can I get a refund?
Tickets are partially refundable up to one month before. Please refer to the ticket description at the time of purchase. Tickets are non refundable within one month of the event. If you are unable to go within one month of the event please get in touch and we will see what we can do to help.
Can I sell my ticket?
No, tickets may not be sold onto other people independently, and it risks your ticket being cancelled without a refund. If you want to transfer your ticket to another person please get in touch with us and we will facilitate this.
Where can I buy tickets?
Tickets for the York Junior Proms may ONLY be purchased via this website (juniorproms.com) or from the Visit York Information Centre, on Parliament Street. Please DO NOT buy tickets from any other source as we cannot guarantee these are genuine. If the event sells out please get in touch to be added to the waiting list.
I can't afford to come, are there discounts for low income families?
We will have an allocation of tickets available for families on lower incomes to ensure all children have the chance to enjoy this event.
If you are receiving support from a local community organisation please speak to them first as they may have an allocation available for families they support and can organise a ticket directly. If you are not involved with any organisations already please get in touch via the contact page and we will do our best to help.
Please note, we will not have any news on an allocation of tickets for low income families until we have the results of our funding applications, which will be in late March/early April.
Can I pay in instalments?
To lock in the current price you can reserve tickets with a 20% deposit by choosing Instalment Plan. The final balance is due by 28th May.
Deposit is be paid via a payment link that will be emailed to you, and you will have 3 days to pay for reserved tickets to secure the order.
Final balance will be requested on 1st May and you have until 28th May to complete to booking. If payment is not received by the end of 28th May then your tickets may be cancelled and the deposit will be lost.
You can pay the balance early by emailing the box office and requesting a payment link.
Programme
What music will be included in the programme
The programme will include a selection of classical music that we believe it more accessible for a younger audience, children's film music (like Harry Potter, Disney films, musicals etc) and a performance of the school Song Project at the end.
The event will also include Jester and Smedley, who are two characters from The York Dungeon.
A full programme will be published a few weeks before the event but may be subject to change for reasons beyond the control of the organiser.
Will the music be very loud?
the music will be amplified but, as it is an outdoor venue, we do not anticipate this being too loud for children with sensory sensitivities. However, if your child/young person has a sensitivity to loud noise you may prefer to choose a space more to the outskirts of the viewing lawn.
There will be no loud beats os sudden bangs to worry about.
If your child has significant sensory issues please be aware we will have a 'chill out' tent and a dedicated area where other parents with children with sensory issues will be seated, so you can sit with them to receive extra support and friendship. If you are not already connected with any of these groups please get in touch via the contact page and we'll be happy to put you in touch.
There will be no fireworks display, as this is an afternoon event.
Will there be a fireworks display?
No, due to this event taking place in daylight hours there will be no fireworks display.
There may be a streamer cannon and we will advise nearer the time if this will create an audible 'bang'. If so, we will give advance warning for any children or adults with sensitivities.
Will the performers be professional?
Yes, the main show performers will be a professional orchestra.
